In 2018, a doctor and an entrepreneur came together to reimagine healthcare in Brazil. Their company, Sami Saúde, transforms a complex, bureaucratic system into one that provides affordable and personalized care to ensure every Brazilian can get health services without worry. Today, Sami’s team of 300 connects patients, doctors, hospitals, laboratories, and companies to make healthcare as efficient, humane, accessible, and reliable as possible.

Now, the company is leveraging new AI capabilities within Google Cloud and Workspace to accelerate access to the care even more. By automating repetitive administrative tasks, Sami has empowered employees to provide better, faster healthcare services.

Sami’s relationship with Google Cloud and Workspace began with alignment: on values, technological efficiency, and commitment to innovation. Google not only shares the company’s belief in empowering people through technology, but provides scalable infrastructure, a comprehensive and integrated ecosystem of solutions, and a strong focus on continuous improvement.

Implemented with support from Google Premier Partner CI&T, Google Cloud enabled the company to build a solution that sets a new standard for health insurance in Brazil. Drawing on each patient’s unique needs and medical history, this system automates tasks and provides guidance to healthcare providers with suggestions of next care steps.

As AI capabilities within Google Cloud expanded, the team saw the opportunity to develop powerful AI solutions that could solve more everyday challenges in healthcare. The team’s most ambitious project, named Copilot, uses Vertex AI to create an AI-powered assistant that supports healthcare professionals in real-time interactions with patients. By giving nurses relevant patient information, Copilot reduces the need for manual searches and improves the quality of care.

These initiatives align with our commitment to providing faster, more personalized care.“

Now, the platform's centralized approach makes it easier to manage data repositories, connect models, and design AI architecture, enabling the Sami team to build, test, and iterate quickly. For example, in a 48-hour hackathon, two developers created Verificare, an AI-powered tool that simplifies legal processes. Built using Vertex AI, Verificare automates the process of searching through contracts, providing immediate answers and verifying crucial information. The project, which won the hackathon for its simplicity and speed of implementation, significantly reduces the workload for overburdened legal teams and improves operational efficiency.

Reducing administrative burden to improve patient care

As early adopters of new solutions, Sami was quick to experiment with Gemini for Google Workspace to automate administrative processes, such as generating clinical summaries. Nurses used to spend hours per day consolidating notes and voice memos into reports for doctors and for patient history. Now, Gemini analyzes text, visual, and audio input to create accurate, comprehensive patient summaries. By offloading this task to Gemini, Sami saves its nurses more than 900 hours every month, or a 13% productivity gain — time they can now spend caring for patients — and has improved communication between healthcare providers.

Gemini also automatically generates tags based on the content of the summary, making it easier for doctors to review and assess cases. The tags provide valuable insights into specific patient conditions, enabling doctors to track trends and make more informed diagnoses.

Beyond summaries and classification, Sami uses Gemini to standardize marketing campaigns and streamline meetings. The team can prompt Gemini with a theme, audience, and key messaging, and Gemini will create a customized campaign and send it directly to the team for review in their group collaboration platform. During meetings, Gemini automatically takes notes, summarizes the content, and attaches it to the invite, so if someone is unable to attend, they can easily get caught up.
